Welcome to the new crazy
Its been a minute since my last blog check-in. Shortly after my blog in June of last year, I lost both of my grandparents back-to-back. A month later, I had our second daughter Rory.
Since then we’ve been spending our days learning how to balance our growing family and the growing farm. We’re raising more chicken, pigs, and cattle this year than ever before.
Growth is exciting but it can also be scary at times. It stretches us. This season is teaching us to be flexible and fluid. Joe and I have a daily and weekly check-in to talk about what has to be done or what we hope to accomplish. Many if not all days, the plan changes. This used to frustrate me to no end - I’m a planner by nature! But when your business hinges on living things and weather, you have to be prepared for the unpredictable.
Not to mention, two little girls have schedules of their own. Our girls are wonderfully flexible sometimes, but everyone reaches their max.
We’re coming into the busiest time of all over the next few months as we get ready to harvest two batches of chickens, the remainder of our 2023 cattle and our pigs. It’s the time when we serve most of our customers and fill lots of families’ freezers. My constant mantra has been and will be “do the next right thing.”
I can’t wait to reach the end of the year and look back at all we’ve accomplished, but first we have to get to the finish!
At the same time, we’re also already dreaming and planning for big growth next year. We can’t wait to share it with all of you. Until then, keep on keeping on friends!
